Valentine One Mirror Install

Here's how I installed the Valentine One Radar / Laser Detector in my Z. I’ve had one of these detectors for years in my 4Runner and wouldn’t have any other detector. Once you’ve gotten used to the directional arrows and radar counter nothing else gives enough information. I bought another one for my Z.

I started by installing the Valentine One Concealed Display inside the Gentex HomeLink mirror (GNTX-313) that came with the car. It takes a LOT of time to get the mirror done.

I've started building more of these mirrors using the latest, much improved, version of the Gentex HomeLink mirrors, these look much better and have a compass too. The V1 Display and Compass Display are hidden behind the mirror glass. When the displays are turned off they are almost completely invisible. 'These are available with Colored Band LEDs or with the standard all Red Band LEDs.

The Valentine One Radar Detector was mounted behind the passengers seat where one of the headliner clips was.
This screw and jack nut were used to make sure the V1 was securely mounted

The power for the V1 was run down through the hole in the headliner where the headliner clip was.

The power wire was pushed on top of the headliner over to the small side window on the drivers side and down through the opening in the headliner just above the window.

The rubber trim around the drivers window that holds the headliner up was pulled back and the wire was laid just inside the headliner. There are small pieces of foam rubber attached to the inside of the headliner that hold the wire in place nicely.

The V1 power wire was tied to other wires running down the front pillar and on to the fuse box.
I attached the V1 Direct Power adapter to the sidewall just above the fuse box with a small metal bracket I made and a screw that held some of the cars cabling in place.

I found a place near the fuse box to mount the Direct Wire Adapter ( marked in yellow in the picture ). You can't see it in the picture because it's hidden by the adapter. But there is a 3/8 inch screw ( like the one marked in green in the picture ) about 3 inches above the fuse box that holds a metal bracket holding the cable harness to the side of the car.

I made an L shaped metal bracket ( see pic of similar below ) to mount to the car with the screw mentioned above and attached the Direct Wire Adapter to the end of the bracket with hot glue and a very small screw.
I attached the ground wire for the adapter to the car with the same screw I used to attach the bracket.

The 4th fuse slot in the top of the fuse box in my car was empty and has power on the bottom terminal of the slot when the ignition switch is in both the ACC and ON positions so I used it for power to the Direct Wire adapter.
Marked in pink is the fuse holder pluged into the fuse box.

I bought a fuse holder from Auto Zone that uses the same size fuses as the car and plugs into the fuse box. I think it was called "Add a Circuit" ( see pic below ) I connected the red wire from the V1 adapter to the fuse holder.

I ran the wire for the remote display from the V1 Direct Power Adapter up the pillar and above the headliner over to the hole where the mirror power wire ran.
I installed a RJ11 jack in the back of the mirror so I could easily remove the mirror later if needed.

I installed the V1 Remote Audio Adapter in the ash tray in the console where it is easily reached. I had to cut the bottom of the ash tray out to make the Remote Audio Adapter fit so the ash tray door would close. I installed this at a depth that allows me to push down on the ash tray door to mute the audio. I routed the power for the V1 through the remote audio so the V1 can be turned off with the remote audio adapter if necessary.
